INVESTING IN THE MACKAY REGION

The Mackay Region is an economic powerhouse situated on the coast of Queensland, halfway between Brisbane and Cairns.
As of the 2021 Census, the regional population was 121,695 most of whom live in the suburbs of the city.

Long, white, sandy beaches, excellent boating and sporting facilities, and year-round warmth make for a relaxed, tropical lifestyle.

The region’s prosperity originated in the rich agricultural land of the Pioneer Valley, which runs some 80km to the west of the city. Sugar, along with grain from the hinterland, is exported through Mackay Harbour. Adjacent to the harbour is a world-class marina and residential precinct.

Forty kilometres south of the city are the coal ports of Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay, which together constitute the largest coal-loading facility in Queensland and one of the largest in the world.

In recent years, Mackay has become the major service centre for the Bowen Basin coal mines, and a large percentage of the mines’ workforce calls the region home. Continued expansion in the resources sector drives a positive outlook as Mackay undergoes a period of solid and sustained economic growth.
